Sunsundegui has signed a historic pre-agreement with Volvo Bus and, from 2024, will take over the manufacture of two of the Swedish automaker’s latest-generation bus models (the top-of-the-line 9700 and 9900 models).
The letter of intent signed by both parties includes a two-fold agreement: the transfer of technology and the design and manufacturing process, and the transfer of supply.
The plan is to start production in May 2024 and reach a production rate of 2 units per day, which will require a gradual process of 9 to 12 months.
The agreement with Volvo Bus, Sunsundegui’s reference partner, will allow the Navarre-based company to increase its current production capacity from 3 to 4 units per day, reaching a capacity of 850 units per year.
This agreement will involve the hiring of between 400 and 500 direct and indirect personnel over the next four years.
In turn, Sunsundegui maintains its current product portfolio and will continue to body on all chassis available on the market.
